Beaches of Syracuse

In the town of Syracuse and Ortigia there are no beaches. You can swim in Ortygia near Forte Vigliena (end of Via della Maestranza) where a platform on the rocks is built every summer. All Syracusan sandy beaches, the most beautiful of Sicily, are out of town, on the south coast. Some of them are accessible by public transport from the bus station 50 meters from the hostel. With private car/bikes it is possible to reach the most beautiful and uncontamined beaches of Marchesa del Cassibile, Vendicari Natural Reserve or Portopalo-Carratois

FONTANE BIANCHE
White sandy beach and turquoise sea. Fontane Bianche is the most popular beach near Syracuse.
ARENELLA
Arenella is probably the most beautiful beach near the city. Even here the sand is white and the sea is spectacular.
MARCHESA DEL CASSIBILE
Wonderful long beach close to the mouth of the river Cassibile. There are showers in the wood close by, no umbrellas and sunbeds, only incontaminated nature.
MARIANELLI - VENDICARI
Marianelli is the closest and one of the most beautiful beaches of Vendicari. It is located right next to the ruins of Eloro.
TONNARA - VENDICARI
This is the wonderful beach that can be easily reached from the main entrance of Vendicari Reserve. Pure clean water and a huge sandy beach near the ruins of an old tuna fishery.
CALAMOSCHE - VENDICARI
It is the most beautiful beach of Vendicari natural reserve, with golden sandy beaches and Caribbean Sea.
SAN LORENZO - VENDICARI
San Lorenzo – Case Cittadella is a breathtaking huge sandy beach with turquoise water, located in the south side of Vendicari reserve. Here in summer the Caretta Caretta turtles leave their eggs.
CARRATOIS - PORTOPALO
Beautiful, unspoiled beaches where the Mediterranean meets the Ionian Sea close to the most southern point of Sicily, in the province of Syracuse.
